Petro has announced his desire to make a readjustment to the pension system by the creation of a public administrator for pension funds, resulting in a "mixed and complementary system" together with private fund.

The candidate said that Colombia has no retirement system, instead it's a system that makes bank profits. Many believe this would stop his from being President.  https://www.eluniversal.com.co/temas/-/meta/gustavo-petro  stated that he will not abolish the system but would advocate for reforms to the pension system so that they can provide an income that is minimum for Colombians. Petro further stated that it is not necessary to increase the age at which pensioners can retire.

Another issue that has been a source of controversy is his repeated vows to stop oil extraction when the time comes for him to become President. This has led to uncertainty for investors and the general market.

Experts predict that Petro's proposal end to exploration for oil would cost Colombia the equivalent of $4.3 billion in loss.

Additionally, this proposal would establish an anti-oil front throughout the globe and across the region which shifts the economy away from fossil fuels. To accomplish this, I would invite Gabriel Boric the Chilean president and LuizInacio Lula Silva to be the Brazilian president.

Petro stated that he has talked to Pedro Sanchez, the Prime Minster of Spain regarding his plan.

He also raised questions about the independence and legitimacy of the Banco de la Republica.

Petro said that the Bank Board of Directors belonged to the Democratic Center and "What we need is an independent Bank of the Republic (...) it is essential that the Board of Directors has the presence of the society," the candidate stated in the middle of a debate.

Invamer reports that Petro is leading in terms of voting intentions for the presidential election.

It was a controversial idea that he suggested issuing money to finance spending by the government.

Among the pillars of Petro's proposals are an economy that does not depend on fossil fuels, mining, or extraction of hydrocarbons. They also emphasize increasing importance to agriculture.

petro gustavo  said that he would pursue a tax reform to eliminate exemptions and transform the idea of a minimum wage into a real-world wage based on income and capital.
