Petro stated his intent to make a change to pensions through the establishment of a public manager for pension funds. He also intends to develop an investment system that is "mixed-and-complementary" and private fund.

The candidate has said that in Colombia "we don't have pensions, we have a system of bank profits," so many claim that he will eliminate any chance of winning the Presidency. However, Petro recently said that he would not eliminate them but would seek pension reform to create a minimum retirement age for Colombians. Petro said, however, that it wasn't necessary to increase the retirement age.
